Over the past decade, few employees have come to embody Sandhill’s core values and guiding principles quite like Trisha Allsop. After beginning her Sandhill experience as a college intern, Trisha was brought on board as a full-time employee after receiving her undergraduate degree—and has swiftly risen through the ranks ever since. Today, she serves as our Director of Client Service, where she oversees a team of associates and leverages her innovative prowess to introduce a myriad of improvements to our organization.
Throughout Trisha’s tenure at our firm, one thing has been abundantly clear: she bleeds Sandhill blue and gold. Read more about Trisha’s journey to learn more about her love for Sandhill and her unwavering desire to continue revolutionizing our firm into the future.
During my time at Sandhill, I think it’s fair to say that I’ve been around the block a time or two before. From starting off as an intern to working my way up to Director, I’ve supported almost every Investment Advisor at the firm, which has taught me a lot about how to artfully inject my character into client and advisor support interactions. I feel that inserting your soul into conversations with clients keeps the experience authentic and helps you develop a better relationship with them. As an extrovert and bartender throughout college, building a rapport with other people comes easy to me, which is a large part of the reason why I’ve enjoyed my years in Client Service and believe I’m well suited for this line of work.
I’ve had the privilege of spending the bulk of my time working alongside Sandhill’s Founder and Co-Managing Partner, Tim Johnston, over the past five years. Through this role, I’ve been able to learn vast amounts of information related to finance, but I’ve also deepened my knowledge of human behavior. Collaborating with Tim and supporting his valued clients has helped to further my professional growth and maturation at a break-neck speed. He’s one of the rare C-suite executives who really cares about the people around him, and he beautifully balances being a mentor and a boss. Tim has built Sandhill into an incredible place to invest—and he’s also built Sandhill into an incredible place to build your future. I hope to emulate his leadership style throughout my career.
I’m the type of person who is perpetually brainstorming ways to improve processes and ways of doing things internally. Part of why I enjoy working at Sandhill is that employees are given the freedom and autonomy to own innovations and operations. If you’re passionate about making a difference in one particular area, our firm’s leadership is receptive to hearing out the ideas that you bring to the table. I’ve done my part to help revamp our Client Service team’s structure, which has made a big difference in terms of making sure that the satisfaction of our clients remains our top priority. That’s also part of the beauty of working at a smaller firm—you’re given the ability to wear multiple hats on a daily basis, which can expose you to many different areas of the company.
Having the opportunity to manage an all-woman team of Client Service associates has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I’ve often said that helping others find success breeds your own success. I also recognize that we all stand on the shoulders of the giants that came before us, and I hope to honor that by building upon our legacy while maintaining the integrity of team culture. That’s why I like to describe my management style as “human,” which might sound strange. But I’ve always tried my best to meet my team members where they’re at on any given day. You learn about what people’s best effort looks like and how you can inspire or motivate them to be their best selves—both personally and professionally. I want to prove to my team that I care about them and will go out of my way to support them through action and example.
The synergy of being part of a team that truly cares about you is special. Over the years, talented workers have come and gone through the doors of Sandhill, but one thing has remained constant: we care about each other, we support each other, and we look out for one another here. We’ve built something pretty special at Sandhill, and I can’t wait to be part of our continued growth for years to come.
It’s no secret that there is a shortage of women in finance, so working for a firm like Sandhill, I’m always trying to empower women around me. I advise women to do things in the workplace that scare them. Take risks and never sell yourself short. One of the best—but often scariest—ways to learn is baptism by fire. I’ve done it, and I know many other women who’ve done the same. Work as hard as humanly possible to master your craft. Understand that mistakes and failures are part of the process. And at the end of the day, make sure you keep a stark and honest assessment of your value and never let someone else determine what you’re worth. Don’t let people tell you what you can’t do—show them what you can do!
Outside of work, many are surprised to discover that I’ve long been a passionate powerlifter (yes, you read that correctly… don’t let my kind nature fool you!). My partner, Adam, is a certified personal trainer. The two of us met through powerlifting nearly five years ago. Starting my day off with a good morning workout gives me the energy I need to focus on my work while at the office. I like to call myself the strongest person at Sandhill—because I don’t see anyone else squatting 300 pounds!
